Currently, the links in the right sidebar are generated from header tags. It would be nice to be able to add a custom header without using the h tag, perhaps using <a> tags?

This is not something we plan to implement without proper explanations about your motivations.

Please explain in depth why this would be useful, not just for you but for the Docusaurus users in general.

Sébastien Lorber: It's part of https://github.com/facebook/docusaurus/issues/6201, basically manual enhancement of the TOC.

Just my personal opinion. I think it should be auto generated based on headers as it does today. That's where a properly semantically structured content becomes important, which is what every document should follow. That's why it's called "table of content". If something is not showing up there, most likely contents are not properly structured.
